Chapter 11 summary Lord of the Flies

In chapter 11, Jack wants Ralph to leave the camp. Ralph and Jack start fighting each other. Jack gets the hunters to rescue the twins and tie them up. Ralph and Jack fight again, and this time the conch shell cracks while piggy holding it. It knocks Piggy off the mountainside. Roget and Jack start picking on the twins, Sam and Eric. They are trying to force them to join Jacks authority and his tribe.

Jack and Roger shouldn't force them to join his authority and tribe because the should be aloud to do anything they want.

Thoughts on the book

     My overall thoughts on the book, is that its a pretty good book. I really enjoyed it. I feel this way because the little boys helped each other out throughout the book. The boys did team work and helped build a fire. They had ideas on how to find a way back home.
     The group work was alright. A lot of late work, and work not done, but we all also worked as a team and helped each other out. What i can do better, is put the summary's in my own word, and turn in work on time.

Thoughts On The Book

My overall thoughts on The Lord of the Flies was it was a pretty good book. It had action, adventure and drama which is everything teenagers want to see. Its not my favorite book though. Im not sure why it just didnt grab my attention like I thought it would or has I had hoped. I did like it I just thought I would have liked it a little more then I did.

My group was pretty good. Everyone did what we were asked. We had a couple incidents but I dont think it will hurt our grade. We maybe could work a little harder when we get into groups in class but we work good as a group outside of class which is odd but true. I was happy with my group and would like to work with them again.

Chapter 12 Summary

Ralph hides in the jungle scared about what has happened. He thinks about the death of Piggy & Simon. Ralph knocks over the Lord of the Flies and picks up the stick and plans to hurt Jack with it. Ralph sneaks to Jacks camp but sees people guarding it. The twins give him food but wont join him. They tell him that Jack was planning to send the whole tribe after him the next day. Ralph then goes and falls asleep in a bush. Ralph hears Jack hurting one of the twins to find out where he is. The boys try to break open the bush. A group feeds away a group of boys that try & get into the bush. Ralph smells smoke and realizes Jack is burning the jungle and trying to smoke him out. Ralph fights his way past a group of hunter & Jack. Ralph is looking for a new place to hid at. He collapses on the beach. Ralph looks up and sees a man telling him that ship has come for them. Jack and the hunters stop running after Ralph after they see the man. The man learns about what happened on the island. All the boys start crying. The man shows them to the boat.

Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 11 Summary

In this chapter the boys in Ralph's group decide to go to a place called castle rock. So Ralph blows he conch to assemble a meeting. Ralph decides to take the conch shell with him to castle rock. On the way there they boys from jacks camp attacked Ralph and his group. When Jack saw Ralph and his group he attacked Ralph. During there fight one of the boys pushes a rock down a hill that pushes piggy of a mountain side, where he hit the rocks at the bottom and was killed.

 My personal response to the events in this chapter 11 is that I am very disappointed that Piggy was killed because I think that he was a good role model for some of the boys on the island. And now Ralph is going to be lonely. And it will be difficult for Ralph to be leader of all the boys in his group by himself.

chapter 9 summary

This chapter is mostly about Simon. The parachute man is soon taken over with the flies. Piggy gets a pain in his head. The beast grows in power and control of their island.Simon decides to tell the others about the beast.Soon all the boys gather around a bonfire where the sow is being cooked and eaten. During another a part of their chanting where they get ready to kill the pig, Simon shows up. In the darkness the boys thinks that Simon is the beast, so they attack him, slowly murdering the him. Simon’s body slowly floats out to sea. Simon's body slowly disappears.

The end of the book

     I think at the end of the book they will get rescued. Once they get rescued they will all go their seperate ways for the ones on different tribes. They might keep in touch with the people in their own tribes. I think that Simons parents will become very worried. They will never know what happend though.
     I dont think Jacks tribe will ever realize what they did. They will wonder why Simon does not come back. I think that smeone will go looking for him. They will not find him though. None of the boys will forget the experience of this though.

Prediction

Id like for the book to end with them getting off the island. I want Jack to get killed off because hes not a nice person anymore. I really just want Ralph & Piggy to get off the island. I think out of the situation that the boys all grew up fast. When they get back to there parents they will have matured.

Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 10 Summary

In this chapter Ralph tells Piggy that they were part of a murder and Piggy disagrees and says it was just an accident. Jack's group brutally attacks Ralph and his group. at first no one knew why Jack's group attacked them but they soon realized it was because they wanted Piggies glasses because they can make the fire.

Chapter 10 Summary

Ralph & Piggy meet on the beach the next morning. They feel really bad about how they acted the night before. Ralph & Piggy realize there alone because everyone went and joined Jacks tribe. Jacks tribe is staying at the Castle Rock. There Jack has all the power over the boys. The boys get punished for no reason at all. Jack ties a boy named Wilfred and beat him. The whole tribe including Jack think that Simon was really a beast. Jack says that the beast will never really be dead. He also says that him & two hunters should go raid Ralphs camp and start hunting again tomorrow. The boys at Ralphs camp fall asleep because they got board watching the signal fire. They get woken up by a howling noise & then attacked by Jacks hunters. The hunters beat up Ralph pretty bad. The hunters stole Piggys glasses & the power to make a fire.

My thoughts on this chapter is that Jack has changed for the worst. Hes so mean and nasty now. All he wants to do is hurt Ralph. I also thought it was messed up of Jack to not care about Simon being dead. Jack needs and attitude check.

Prediction post

   I think that at the end of the chapter, the boys will get saved. They will build another fire, and hope someone will see the fire then come save them. I also think they will go back to the island and try to get some more rest. A plane will fly by and see the fire, and will land on the island to save the boys. Someone will come find them and take them back home.
   I also think that a boat will come behind the mountain, in the water, and see the fire. The person will climb the mountain after parking the boat, and then go find the boys. The person will find the boys on the mountain, and rescue them.

Chapter 9 summary

In Chapter 9 of Lord of the Flies, Simon wakes up from being unconscious, and his nose is all bloody. It just got done storming. He climbs back up to the mountain and finds the dead parachutist still laying there. He realizes it was just the beast tied up in the strings tangled on the rocks. He goes back to tell the boys, but when he got there, the boys though that Simon was the beast so they killed him. The "beast" was just all in there head, it wasn't really true.

chapter 8 summary

The beast is very close to the fire, which has been put out. Ralph makes a point that he thinks the beast doesn’t want them to be saved.Jack tells his hunters that Ralph said they were no good.Which is a lie. Jack wants another vote for chief. He becomes embarrassed and starts crying when nobody voted forhim. He doesn't want to be a part of Ralphs group.Three things happen when Jack leaves.Ralph thinks that matters are hopeless, Piggy gives an idea of building the fire on the shore, and Simon decides to confront the beast.Piggy is overly happy that Jack has left Ralph and the others. Piggy was so appy he helped gather food.Soon Ralph and Piggy realize that many of the others are slowly and silently leaving them to join Jack. Maurice, Bill, and Roger are first to go. Simon has also left because he wants to find the beast, to find out what it is.

Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 7 Summary

In chapter 7 the boys find pig droppings and decide to go hunting for the pig. They eventually find the wild boar and go on a wild chase after it. It escapes so the boys plan for the next time they might see a boar, so they know what to do. There cannot continue on with there plan on climbing the mountain because it was night time, and Ralph says it would be to dangerous.

• Although they are carnivores the bulk of there diet consists of berry's and roots.

Chapter 6 Summary

Late at night Ralph and Simon carry a little kid back to the shelter before going to bed. While the boys are sleeping military airplains battle over the island. No one sees the explosions because Sam and Eric, who watch the fire, fell asleep. During the battle a dead parachutist falls from the sky. When Sam & Eric wake up they rebuild the fire. From the flames of the fire they see the dead parachutist but mistake it for the beast. They rush back to the camp & wake up Ralph to tell them what they saw. Ralph then calls a meeting. Everyone sets out to find the beast except Piggy and the little kids. The boys reach a part of the island they have never seen before. Ralph goes on a walk way by himself. Jack later joins him. While the boys are climbing the hill Raplh feels the bond between him & Jack reviving. The other boys start to play games. Ralph gets mad and tells them not to be playing around and that they are looking for the beast.

Lord of the Flies; Chapter 7 summary

In Chapter 7, It talks about how the boys should hunt for the pig while the others look for the beast. The boys end up finding a large boar. Ralph gets his spear and flings it at the boar, but he has never hunted before. They see this kid named Robert, playing with the boar. It was only a game, so Ralph goes back to the beach and tells Piggy, but boys won't be back there till late that night. As Ralph and Roger climb the mountain, they see the monster.

Wild Boars

• They were brought here from Europe.
• The males had tusks that come out from there mouths.
• Boars will sometimes breed with pot-bellied pigs.
• Mother boars usually have 1 litter a year, with 14 babies.

I found it ironic that the boat was in mid passing of the island and the signal fire went out.

Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 5 Summary

Ralph decides to call a meeting with all the boys to try to get them back in line. So later in the evening Ralph blows the conch shell signaling for the boys to gather on the beach. At the meeting place Ralph brings up how the boys have failed to obey the group rules, and have not done anything required of them. They refuse to work at building shelters, gathering drinking water, and keeping up with the signal fire also failure to use the designated toilet area. He restates the importance of the signal fire and address's that there are no monsters on the island, for the "littluns" who have been having nightmares about said monsters. But it does not effect there fear of the beast, and they continue to feel frightened especially during night. One of the littlluns speaks up and claims that they have actually seen a beast. Which does not help with Ralph's attempt to get them to believe there is no beast on the island.

chapter 5 summary

Ralph called an emergency meeting to talk about the current problem. This is the latest meeting so far. It is already after dark. At last, Ralph is respecting Piggy now and views his as the same. Ralph expresses his thoughts,worries and fears about what was happening to the group. The shelters were finished by himself and Simon; the assigned place for bathroom use near a certain area of rocks is no longer used and the children go just about anywhere even near the fruit trees they eat from. He reiterates that the signal fire must stay lit and that fire shall burn only on the mountains, noting again Piggy's earlier statement when part of the island had been burnt due to their mistakes. The signal fire is higher in rank than the hunting and killing of pigs. Many of the children laugh at him,not taking what he said seriously.

The irony applies to the book because when they build a fire and its working a boat passes and the fire goes out. What irony is, is a technique of indicating as through character or plot development, an intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually or ostensibly stated.

Chapter 3 summary

Jack trails a pig through the thick jungle, but it evades him. Ralph  is irritated because the huts keep falling down before they are completed and because, though the huts are vital to the boys’ ability to live on the island, none of the other boys besides Simon will help him. As Ralph and Simon work, most of the other boys splash about and play in the lagoon.   He says that all the boys act excited and energized by the plans they make at meetings, but none of them is willing to work to make the plans successful. Ralph points out that Jack’s hunters have failed to catch a single pig. Jack claims that although they have so far failed to bring down a pig, they will soon have more success. Ralph also worries about the smaller children, many of whom have nightmares and are unable to sleep. Jack is still trying to think of ways to kill a pig, is not interested in Ralph’s problems. The kids are scared as they are stranded on the island.  Jack was more worried on killing the pig, than the little kids. 


Building the huts for the younger kids is a good idea, but they would also need food, so they don't have to hunt and kill animals on the island for food.

Irony

I thought it was pretty ironic that when the boat passes that the fire goes out. The fire went out as soon as the boat passed which is kinda odd like why didnt it go out before or after the boat passes. It was also ironic that Jack was so obessed with the pig that he forgot to check on the fire.

Lord of The Flies: Chapter 4 Summary

The life for the boys devlops a daily rouentie. The boys play in the mornings. When the afternoon comes some of the boys take a nap while others see odd images. Piggy sees these images as mirages. It becomes night & it gets scary out. The littlus are frightend by visions and bad dreams. They continue to think the "beastie" will come after them. With all the fruit they eat causes them to have stomach achs & diarrhea. Roger & Maurice stop on a sand castle that the little kids make. Roger then throws stones at one of the boys. Jack becomes obsessed with the idea of killing a pig. Ralph & Piggy see a ship and notice that the signal fire has gone out. They run to the top of the hill but its too late to start the fire again & the ship dosnt come for them. Ralph gets mad at Jack because it was the hunters job to watch the fire. Jack and the hunters return with a pig. Ralph then confronts Jack about the fire. Piggy complains about the hunters and Jack slaps him so hard that his glasses lense falls out. Jack taunts Piggy. Ralph and Jack get into it. Jack then admits his wrongs for not watching the fire but never apologizes to Piggy. All the boys cook the pig while the hunters dance around it. Raplh calls a meeting and walks toward the beach by himself.

I thought the events in the chapter were pretty good. I didnt like that Jack slapped Piggy and never apologized. You should say sorry for doing something like that. I was glad that the hunters caught a pig so they could all eat. I cant wait to see what Ralph will say the meeting.

The way the conch shell symbolizes order is that in meetings the person that has cnch shell is the only one who can speak. Also when the conch shell is sounded everyone is to report to the lagoon on the beach.


I think as long as everyone follows the rules of the conch shell that it will work.

The symbolism of the conch shell is order because it is blown to assemble the boys to Ralph for a meeting. The "littluns" respect whoever holds the conch shell and listen to them.

Lord of the Flies: Chapter 2 Summary

The boys arrive to the island and realize there is no adults there, so they have to look after themselves. Jack reminds Ralph of the pig they found trapped in the vines in the jungle, and Ralph agrees that they will need hunters to kill animals for meat. Ralph says that, at meetings, the conch shell will be used to determine which boy has the right to speak. Whoever holds the conch shell will speak, and the others will listens until they receive the shell in their turn. Piggy yells about the fact that no one knows they have crashed on the island and that they could be stuck there for a long time. A long period is too harrowing for many of the boys, and the entire group becomes silent and scared. One of the younger children, claims that he saw a “beast” or monster the night before. The older boys try to reassure the group that there is no monster. The boys collect a lot of dead wood and use the lenses from Piggy’s glasses to focus the sunlight and set the wood on fire. The same boy who told them about the beast, said that is was playing over by the fire and now its missing.

Lord of the Flies: Chapter 1 Summary

A boy lowerd himself down into some rocks on a beach. He then finds another boy who is chubby and wears glasses. The boy who lowerd himself introduces himslef as Ralph and the chubby boy says his name is Piggy. During there conversation we find out that a plane carrying a group of boys was shot down over the ocean and then crashed on a jungle. The boys that survived lost each other during the crash. Ralph & Piggy go searching the beach for other kids. They then find a conch shell that Piggy says could be used as a makeshift trumpet. Piggy tells Ralph to blow through the shell to help find other boys. The sound of the shell led other boys onto the beach. Within the group is a boys choir which is lead by a boy named Jack. The boys make fun Piggy for his name & the way he looks. The boys think it would be a good idea to elect a leader. The choir kids vote Jack but the other kids vote Ralph. Ralph & Jack get another choir member named Simon to go explore the beach. The boys feel a bond forming while serching the beach. They reach the end of the jungle with a bunch of rocks. They then climb the up one side of the hill. From the top they can see there is no other people on the island. As they head back to the beach they find a pig stuck in the vines. Jack goes to kill the pig but then dosnt. The pig gets free and runs away. The boys make a long walk and get back to group.
